Rednano.sg, Singapore’s local search and directory engine, launches an “all-in-one” service
The offering is part of rednano.sg’s new features.
Singapore, 4 May 2009 – Rednano.sg has sped up online access to relevant information by launching a ‘bird’s eye view’ of what users can find in its local search and directory engine.
Users who type in a query in the search box will be shown a single page containing all the most relevant information concerning that keyword, for instance a directory listing, news report, a photograph and a map.
This facilitates delivery of the actual information sought by the user. But is also enables him to see at a glance, something he may not have initially been looking for but may be interested in. For instance, a person seeking the address of a restaurant may be shown a picture of the restaurant or a review of the latest menu.
“By presenting these in neat sections on one page, we not only increase the information available to the user, we also provide an opportunity for pleasant surprises. We ought to have named the new service Serendipity,” said Paul Jansen, CEO of SPH Search, which is the company behind the local search and directory engine.
Instead, the company nicknamed the new ‘page’ as ‘GUM’, as the different information sources are gummed seamlessly together for the user.
This is a progression rather than a re-formulation of the site since, at launch,
rednano.sg had already been providing varieties of information, in the form of directory listings, maps, images, web and people search. This was brought to the users’ attention via numbers of results beside the titles of the various categories.
Mr Johnson Goh, VP, Marketing and Sales, said: “The latest development is in response to feedback collected during our one year of operation. Many liked our initial look. As usage grew, users began making suggestions on how to improve Rednano and we took these seriously, resulting in the latest change.”
Rednano.sg also announced its partnership with
IP Mirror Private Limited, a leader in domain names management, to tap each other’s core capabilities to boost the vibrancy of the search engine and domain names landscape.
The partnership enables
rednano.sg to leverage on IP Mirror’s expertise in identifying the new and emerging websites owned by Singaporeans, whether they are local or abroad.
IP Mirror’s CEO, Tessa Lam, said: "Given the over-crowded dot com (.com) extension, it is often difficult to tell whether the content belongs to a Singaporean entity. IP Mirror will supply generic top-level domain names which are owned by entities incorporated, registered or established in Singapore so that users will be able to search for the websites as soon as the domain names are registered.”
Mr Paul Jansen, CEO of
rednano.sg, said: “IP Mirror Group has gained a firm foothold in Asia and enjoys a reputation for service excellence in domain names and brand monitoring services. The partnership will enhance Rednano’s content and results.”
